What is a typical session with you like?

Most sessions involve simply talking together.  For the first half hour, clients usually do most of the talking, with the intention of sharing the thoughts, feelings, worries and questions which are most on their minds.   Sometimes grief and rage need to be released in this process, as frustrations and confusion come to the surface.   Clients often want to be enfolded (either physically or energetically) in reassurance that all the things they feel, think, and want are acceptable and welcome to me.  I listen for underlying themes, self-doubts, and unspoken desires.  The second half of the session usually consists of more back and forth conversation.  I let the client know what I’m noticing, offer suggestions, and affirm their successes.  Almost all sessions end with a homework assignment designed to promote fun and interrupt suffering. 

Clients usually feel encouraged and enlivened after the session, as they become more centered in their inner self and see new opportunities for their lives.  Occasionally clients feel worse before they feel better, because changing old patterns and letting old beliefs die – even ones that cause suffering – always involves some pain.  However, it is my experience that the fear and pain are always worth it, and that a new level of peace is waiting on the other side.
