I love my family and husband, but I feel guilty for wishing they would all go away sometimes! Is this a sign that I don’t really love them as much as I claim?
Many women have a deep longing for space and time that is their own. I strongly encourage my clients who express this desire to find and claim their own space, whether it’s a rented bedroom down the road, a walk-in closet with a soft mattress inside, a corner of the basement, a treehouse, or a tent in the back yard. There is true value in having one’s own space, set up as beautifully as possible, even if you get a chance to sit in it for only ten minutes a month. It is unfortunate that so many women feel ashamed of their desire for time and space alone, when inner peace and replenishment are essential if we are to really give the love and nurturing that our families – and the world – so desperately need.
Here’s a picture of my own transformed tool shed, which is still in the back yard of my former home. (I made a deal with the buyers that I can store it there until I have an opportunity to move it to a new location. Even if that time never comes, it feels good to know that I have a sweet little house of my own on the planet somewhere!)back to FAQ
